Let’s face it, most people don’t like to spend time brushing their teeth. We’ve been told from early on that you must brush your teeth, morning and night, for at least 2 minutes each time.Who has time for that? Well, we all do, but it’s the boredom factor that kicks in and causes you tell yourself, “What’s one missed brushing going to do?”
Well, now there’s an app made especially for kids, to help put the fun back into brushing teeth. MyTeeth introduces four different characters, from which your kid can choose, and some educational material, as well. When your child is ready to brush, they turn on the app and select their character. Their character will then proceed to remind them of how important it is to brush, not only for a particular amount of time, but also to make sure that your technique is correct and that you are brushing all of your teeth.
MyTeeth guides children of all ages through four different levels of brushing. To start, there is the Simple brushing method. This helps kids understand the essentials behind brushing, why it’s important to keep teeth and gums healthy, and how to move the brush so you clean without damaging your gums.
The next level is Circular brushing. This level is recommended only if you know your child knows how to draw or trace circles. The concept of this shape is essential to master this level and moving the brush correctly.
Red to white brushing is a precursor to the final step of Bass method. It builds off the circular brushing method and sets the child up for success in more advanced brushing techniques.
The app features whimsical illustrations courtesy of Christian Heuser, giving the app a more storybook like feel rather than be like a tutorial. Parents will like that there is timer and the app shows the child’s chosen character actually brushing, using the method selected. It is truly the best way to teach a child good habits, as they mirror what they see.
To add to the enjoyment and get kids really into the brushing, MyTeeth offers background music – another distraction to while the time away. You won’t even realize you’ve brushed for 3 minutes!
There is a ton of educational material and guidance for parents on how to use the app to its fullest extent, so you get great results. The app is not just for kids, there is plenty for adults to learn about concerning the health of their teeth and how it can affect other parts of their body.
It would be nice to see additional character choices in upcoming releases. Better yet, what if the app could take your child’s headshot and make them a part of the app. I think kids would really engage with that.
Until then, I highly recommend you download MyTeeth soon and solve all of your brushing woes – you won’t ever have to ask, “Did you brush your teeth?”
