Editor’s Note: Some of our readers notified us about a few security issues with this app. Never share your payment credentials within My Cards.
How many times have you rummaged through bags or wallets looking for a membership card or for the credit card that you have for a particular store? Most people have more than one credit card and most of us have memberships or loyalty cards to stores, gyms and eateries. The benefits we get from those programs is so great, we want to partake; it’s getting to those cards and accounts that makes it so hard to take advantage of such systems.
If you are looking for a way to keep things in their place so you can find them easily when you need them, then My Cards is for you. It is a free app that lets you upload and enter information about all of your credit cards, your passports, identification cards, loyalty cards, and memberships. Anything that is an account of some sort that you want to get to easily, you can do so using My Cards.
Many stores have loyalty programs that can be managed through apps, but credits cards remain standalone, and require you to pull them out to be swiped. My Cards lets you collect and contain the information for every card you use, all in one place. So that the next time you are out shopping, instead of opening your wallet and thumbing through it for your credit card, all you have to do is pull out your cell phone, open My Cards and pull up your card electronically.
To enter cards, you will provide the card name, like Visa or the storename club card. You’ll also enter the card number, expiration date, and name on the card. Once entered, the app will generate a UPC code that can be scanned.
What I really thought was cool about the app is how it shows all of your cards as if they are in a wallet. It makes it really easy to find what you are looking for and to pull them “out” when they are needed.
Did I mention that this app is not just for credit cards? Nope. You can enter any card that has a number on it. This can be your loyalty card for Macy’s. It can be your frequent flyer card information for American Airlines. It can be information about your membership to Planet Fitness. You can keep it all here and up to date.
So, keeping things up to date is hard for you? Have no fear with My Card. Since you have entered the expiry dates for each card, you will get alerts from the app when those dates start to creep up, so you can keep an eye out for the new one or contact the company to have one issued.
You can also favorite certain cards that you use most often, like your main credit card.
The more important aspect to this app is that all of this sensitive information that you are entering and storing in the app is kept under strict security protection through thorough encryption.
My Cards is connected to iCloud, which means you can use the app on all of your iOS devices without having to re-enter the information. It’s all there no matter what device you are using. What was interesting to me was the notion of being able to share card information. I was not quite sure why someone would want to do that, but people must be doing so for the function to be a consideration.
If I were to change anything in the app, it would be to make the font a bit bigger and use something more modern. As is, it’s quite plain.
Overall, however, the app serves to make life easier by keeping you organized and aware of all of your cards and the information that goes with each, so you can focus on using them.
