FileCalendar Helps You Keep Files Close at Hand

FileCalendar featured

If you’re like me, you sometimes spend endless precious minutes scrambling for lists and notes that you will need for a meeting. You might be stopping by the grocery store on your way home because it says to in your calendar. Only problem is that you get there and you don’t remember what you need to buy. You come up empty handed, looking like a fool.

Well, that doesn’t have to happen anymore. Download FileCalendar and you’ll see why.

FileCalendar is an iOS app that leverages your existing iCalendar app, but makes massive improvements to it by adding the ability to add files to events. Yes, you can actually upload and store files and link them to an event! That means you can add a time slot to go grocery shop and add the shopping list to it, so when you get there, you’re not searching for the list or wondering what you needed to get.

It means you can set up meetings and add the agenda, the list of topics to discuss, and more. It also means that during the event you can create new files and add them to the event. Imagine that – you can take meeting notes and never lost them. They will remain attached to the event. This, my friends, is invaluable at the very least.

On a more personal note, you can add fun files to party invites to make them more fun, like a video or slideshow. Then, during the party, you can take photos, from within the app, so they remain linked to the app. Yes, they are linked to the app – which means after the party, they are all super easy to find and you can upload them to the cloud or send them wherever you want.

This takes me to the next strong feature behind FileCalendar – the ability to upload into and send out to the cloud. Everything we want to save is now on the cloud. This lets you access the files from any device that’s hooked into that cloud app. This means you can bring in files from just about anywhere, with just a tap on the plus sign.

Another great feature, which was recently added, is the ability to view events by the week and view the files associated to those events, on a weekly basis. The files are color coded, so you know what each type is: png, doc, zip, etc.

Speaking of zip files, you can upload zips or unzip and upload individual files, all from within the app. It’s seamless and super easy to use. The daily and weekly layouts are very clean and easy to read, even for those who now need readers to see just about anything that’s close to their face.

One thing that’s important to remember is that if you have FileCalendar installed across different iOS devices, the events will sync, but the files will not. The files always reside on the device from which you performed the import into FileCalendar. What is also important to know is that you should backup FileCalendar to the cloud, so that you can reinstate it when the need to do so arises.

While I do like green, I would like to see FileCalendar upgrade its interface to make it customizable, so you can choose the colors and backgrounds that work for you.

FileCalendar is by far one of the most useful productivity apps I have used. It has saved me time, frustration and the embarrassment of not having files at hand for a meeting. If you’re looking for extra organizational help, FileCalendar can provide it.
